Anthropic's Claude AI gains ability to send Gmail messages
Anthropic has expanded the capabilities of its AI assistant, Claude, through updated Google Workspace connectors. The update allows Claude to move beyond drafting emails to actively sending, replying to, and forwarding messages directly within Gmail.
Users can now instruct the AI to manage entire email threads autonomously. While the system is configured to require human approval by default, users on paid plans—including Pro, Team, and Enterprise—can opt to disable these prompts, allowing the AI to execute communications without manual intervention. For Team and Enterprise accounts, administrators can control whether members are permitted to bypass these approval steps.
In addition to Gmail, the integration with Google Drive has been enhanced. Claude can now search for documents, share files, move them, or delete them within the cloud storage environment. The update is currently available to all subscribers on paid plans and is accessible via web, desktop, mobile, and the Chrome sidebar. Current limitations include an inability to read Gmail attachments or extract images embedded in Drive files.
