Anthropic's Claude AI service experiences global outage
On the morning of 5 August, Anthropic reported a worldwide instability affecting its Claude family of AI models, including Mythos 5, Fable 5, Opus 5 and Sonnet 5, as well as the Claude Code programming tool. Users across multiple regions encountered error messages, failed responses, or capacity‑restriction notices, prompting a surge of reports on monitoring sites such as Downdetector. Anthropic acknowledged the issue on its official status page, said it had identified the cause of the increased error rates, and confirmed that technical teams were working on a correction, though no timeline for restoration was provided.
The outage was noted by users in Brazil, France and other locations, highlighting the broad reliance on Claude for conversational and coding tasks. Anthropic has not disclosed the underlying technical reason and advises users to retry later as the service may work intermittently for some.
