Anthropic updates Claude with unified memory for Chat and Cowork

Anthropic has introduced a major update to its Claude AI assistant, featuring a unified memory system that synchronizes context between the standard chat interface and the Claude Cowork platform. This integration allows information learned during a conversation to be immediately available for cloud-based tasks in Cowork, and vice versa, reducing the need for users to repeat project details or preferences.

Under the new system, Claude captures and adds topics to its memory in real-time during a conversation rather than waiting for the session to conclude. Users maintain control through a Memory settings section where they can view, edit, or delete specific topics.

Regarding privacy, Anthropic has implemented default protections for sensitive information. The system will not automatically store data related to health, religion, political opinions, race, or gender identity unless a user explicitly enables the sensitive topics toggle. Furthermore, the company stated that certain data, such as government IDs, social security numbers, criminal history, and immigration status, will never be stored by the memory system.

The update is available to subscribers on Free, Pro, and Max plans across web, desktop, and mobile platforms. For Team and Enterprise users, the feature is disabled by default and must be activated by a workspace administrator.
