Anthropic's Claude for Android falls short of messaging and navigation promises

Practical tests of Anthropic’s Claude for Android reveal significant discrepancies between advertised capabilities and actual performance. While the AI assistant is marketed as a comprehensive tool for messaging, email, and navigation, testing shows it currently lacks several core functionalities.

Reliable features include setting timers and alarms, as well as calendar management, provided users disable the Google Calendar connector to access the device's local calendar. However, the assistant failed to send WhatsApp or standard text messages during testing. Additionally, Claude lacks turn-by-turn navigation capabilities similar to Google Maps and can only interact with Slack via a web connector rather than directly through the app. Email functionality is currently limited to drafting through a connected Gmail account. Consequently, the assistant is not yet considered a viable replacement for Google’s Gemini.
