Anti-corruption agencies arrest officials for bribery in Zambia and Kenya
Anti-corruption agencies in Zambia and Kenya have conducted separate operations resulting in the arrest of public officials for alleged bribery.
In Zambia, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) charged two Food Reserve Agency (FRA) depot clerks, Hapenga Beene and Inonge Mwaiba, with corrupt practices. The officers are accused of soliciting and receiving a K2,500 bribe from a farmer in Chibombo District. The investigation alleges the officers withheld 90 FRA-branded grain bags from a maize supplier to compel payment.
In Kenya, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested two traffic police officers on the Maua-Makutano highway near Meru County. During a surveillance operation, detectives recovered Ksh23,000 in cash believed to be collected from motorists and impounded a vehicle. The EACC noted these arrests are part of a broader crackdown on officers accused of extorting motorists on major highways.
