Anti-ship missile technology and development trends
The anti-ship missile market is seeing increased demand driven by maritime security needs, territorial disputes, and naval modernization programs. Modern systems are evolving to include high-speed propulsion, sophisticated guidance, and network-enabled targeting. Recent advancements include sea-skimming flight, autonomous navigation, and the integration of supersonic or hypersonic speeds to challenge interception capabilities.
In specific development, MBDA has transitioned from the Sea Skua Mk 2 concept toward the FASGW/ANL program. This is a joint UK and France initiative to develop a common anti-ship weapon. While the Sea Skua Mk 2 was a radar-guided design, preliminary designs for the successor FASGW/ANL weapon indicate an electro-optical (EO) guided missile equipped with a datalink, capable of engaging vessels up to 6,000 tonnes.
