Anti‑corruption agencies uphold rulings against former officials in Romania and Moldova

Romania’s former Bucharest mayor Sorin Oprescu lost his final appeal before the High Court of Cassation and Justice, which affirmed the National Integrity Agency’s incompatibility finding that he held a hospital director’s post while managing an EU‑funded project between 2018 and 2020. The court rejected Oprescu’s request to annul the report, leaving the incompatibility determination in force.

In Moldova, former deputy Ilan Șor, already sentenced for banking fraud, had his challenge to the National Integrity Agency’s asset‑declaration decision dismissed by the Central Court of Appeal. The court upheld the agency’s finding of unjustified wealth exceeding 10 million lei and confirmed related sanctions, including asset confiscation and a three‑year ban from holding public office.
