Anti‑corruption investigations intensify in Mexico and Guatemala

Mexico's state anti‑corruption commission has sent 163 formal requests to notaries in Nuevo León to uncover any real‑estate transactions involving Governor Samuel García and his family. Committee chair Armida Serrato Flores said the effort, part of a political impeachment process, will also draw on tax, financial and banking regulator data, warning that continued non‑response could trigger impeachment or administrative sanctions.

In Guatemala, Attorney General Gabriel García Luna announced a renewed review of corruption complaints that were dismissed during former prosecutor Consuelo Porras's tenure. The review, covering cases raised by President Bernardo Arévalo’s administration, aims to determine whether investigations and prosecutions should proceed, though no request has been made to lift former President Alejandro Giammattei’s immunity.
