Antigone production concludes successful Greek tour
The modern production of Sophocles’ ‘Antigone’, directed by Themis Moumoulidis, is concluding its successful tour across Greece. The production, which features Lena Papaligoura as Antigone, Meletis Ilias as Creon, and Michalis Oikonomou as the Guard, has reached approximately 80,000 spectators over 80 performances.
This specific staging offers a contemporary reading of the tragedy, shifting the conflict from ancient Thebes to a setting reminiscent of modern centers of power and decision-making. The production explores themes of individual responsibility, law, and freedom against the backdrop of authority and totalitarianism.
The final performance of this cycle is scheduled for Wednesday, September 9, at the Lycabettus Theatre.
