Antigua and Barbuda approves detection dogs for port security

The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has approved the acquisition of detection dogs to be deployed at ports. The initiative aims to intercept illegal firearms, ammunition, and currency entering the country.

This decision follows discussions regarding gun crime and the movement of illegal weapons. In addition to the new canine units, the Cabinet has directed customs officials to increase scrutiny during container clearance and to accelerate the acquisition and operation of portable scanning equipment. These measures are part of a broader strategy to strengthen border enforcement in response to recent incidents of gun violence.
