Antigua and Barbuda Fisheries Division sets deadline for removal of abandoned property
The Fisheries Division of Antigua and Barbuda has issued a final warning to owners of abandoned fishing vessels, derelict vehicles, and discarded fishing equipment at the Point Wharf Fisheries Complex. Owners have until October 28, 2026, to remove their property or face enforcement action and potential removal costs.
This cleanup initiative is being conducted in coordination with the National Solid Waste Management Authority, the Central Board of Health, and the Development Control Authority. Authorities noted that owners have been receiving notices regarding these abandoned items since 2020.
Chief Fisheries Officer Ian Horsford cited the Litter Control and Prevention Act of 2019 and the Physical Planning Act as the legal basis for the removal. The measures aim to address environmental degradation, prevent the occupation of valuable space, and ensure the facility remains a safe and efficient working environment.
