Antigua and Barbuda government details medical spending for child

The Antigua and Barbuda Ministry of Health has issued a statement to clarify the government's involvement in the medical care of a child, following public questioning and fundraising appeals for overseas treatment.

The Ministry reported that it has provided more than US$76,000 in direct medical costs through the Medical Benefits Scheme. This includes funding for a 38-day period of specialized care in Martinique and two visits from a neurological surgeon from Trinidad and Tobago, which cost approximately US$20,000 per trip.

According to the Ministry, despite these interventions and efforts to explore various treatment options, medical advice received both locally and internationally indicates that no further interventions can be offered through the avenues currently explored.
