Antigua and Barbuda proposes regional eye hospital
Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Health and the Environment, Michael Joseph, has proposed the establishment of a national eye hospital intended to serve as a regional center of excellence for the Eastern Caribbean.
During meetings at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Joseph discussed the initiative with officials from Orbis, an international nonprofit focused on sustainable eye-care systems. The proposal seeks to leverage international partnerships to develop infrastructure, implement modern technology, and train specialized personnel to combat preventable blindness in the OECS region.
Additionally, preparations are underway for the inaugural Global Summit for Eye Health, which is scheduled to be held in Antigua and Barbuda on November 2, alongside the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
