Antigua and Barbuda Ranked Among Top Caribbean Retirement Destinations for U.S. Citizens

Investopedia's July 25 report placed Antigua and Barbuda among the four best Caribbean countries for American retirees, alongside the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas and Jamaica. The ranking used 38 criteria and more than 1,500 data points, giving greatest weight to affordability, followed by residency benefits, healthcare, accessibility, quality of life and governance.

Key advantages highlighted include the English‑speaking population, established infrastructure and expatriate communities such as Jolly Harbour and English Harbour. Retirees can obtain permanent residency or citizenship through the Citizenship by Investment Programme, requiring a minimum contribution of US $230,000 or a qualifying real‑estate purchase of at least US $300,000. Antigua and Barbuda's tax regime imposes no personal income, capital‑gains, wealth or inheritance taxes, though living costs can be high due to imported goods and expensive property. The country's healthcare system was praised, with major services centered at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre in St John’s.
