AIDS Secretariat Calls for Safer Sex Practices at Antigua Carnival
The AIDS Secretariat of Antigua and Barbuda urged residents and visitors attending the annual Carnival to practice responsible sexual behaviour. Programme Manager Delcora Williams advised using condoms when a partner’s HIV status is unknown and highlighted pre‑exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) as an additional prevention option.
The appeal came as the festival, which includes parades, competitions and concerts and attracts thousands of people, continued across the country. Junior Carnival events were rescheduled due to inclement weather. The message is part of the nation’s broader HIV/AIDS response that includes education, testing, treatment access and efforts to reduce stigma throughout the Caribbean.
