Antigua Guatemala hosts destination wedding and MICE tourism conference

The 16th Congreso de Bodas LAT gathered more than 450 professionals from over 20 countries in Antigua Guatemala, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Organized by the International Association of Destination Wedding Professionals (IADWP) with support from the Instituto Guatemalteco de Turismo (INGUAT) and local officials, the event highlighted the growing $90 billion global romance‑tourism market. Attendees discussed artificial‑intelligence tools, destination marketing, Indian‑style weddings and floral design, while the venue – Hotel Museo Spa Casa Santo Domingo – showcased Guatemalan culture. Organizers estimated a direct economic injection of over US$400,000 and a total impact of roughly US$196 million for the city.

Tourism expert Santiago González of MICE Consulting emphasized Guatemala’s unique blend of Maya heritage, biodiversity and culinary traditions as a competitive advantage for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE). He pointed to opportunities in boutique hotels, wellness and adventure travel, and advocated for luxury products built on exclusive access and personalized experiences. González also noted the need for airport modernization to strengthen the country’s position as a regional conference hub.
