Antigua Hosts First Caribbean Inclusive Sailing Programme

From 21 – 27 June 2026 the National Sailing Academy in Antigua hosted the inaugural Caribbean Inclusive Development Programme. Twenty‑three sailors, coaches and programme leaders from ten Caribbean and South American nations—including Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Chile, St Vincent & the Grenadines, St Kitts & Nevis, the British Virgin Islands and Antigua & Barbuda—participated in intensive training and the first Caribbean Inclusive Sailing Championship.

The event centred on the RS Venture Connect keelboat, equipped with a Seated Control System that allows participants with physical, sensory or intellectual disabilities to compete alongside able‑bodied sailors. Para World Sailing manager Hannah Stodel led the programme, emphasizing the creation of a lasting regional network, coaching development and long‑term opportunities for para sailing. Organisers highlighted the broader impact of fostering community, confidence and belonging beyond the competition itself.
