Antigua Public Utilities Authority Reviews July Outage and Repairs Transmission Tower

The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) began a review of the system-wide power outage that began late Monday, July 27, and left many communities without electricity for several hours. The outage was traced to a damaged lightning arrester on a transmission line, and power was fully restored to all feeders by 3:53 a.m. on Tuesday.

Following the review, APUA carried out emergency repairs on the Pigotts transmission tower, replacing the faulty lightning arrester. Temporary rerouting of the network caused brief power interruptions for some customers and led to a short‑term reduction in water production at the Barnacle Point and Ffryes reverse osmosis plants, which were taken offline because of their high electricity demand. Repairs were scheduled for completion before noon, with a possible additional 15‑ to 20‑minute outage when the network configuration is restored. APUA asked businesses to use standby generators during the work and thanked customers for their cooperation.
