Antim Ivireanul celebrated at his Bucharest monastery

The Romanian Orthodox Church celebrated the feast day of Saint Hierarch Martyr Antim Ivireanul on September 27, 2026, at the Antim Monastery in Bucharest, the institution he founded.

Antim Ivireanul, born in Iviria (modern-day Georgia) around 1650, served as the Abbot of Snagov Monastery, Bishop of Vâlcea, and Metropolitan of Wallachia. A significant cultural figure, he was a theologian, engraver, and printer who managed the princely printing house in Bucharest. He was canonized by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church in 1992.

The religious services in Bucharest were led by Patriarchal Vicar Bishop Varlaam Ploieșteanul, accompanied by a large assembly of clergy. The celebrations included the Divine Liturgy and the veneration of relics, including those of Saint Sofian of Antim.
