Antimafia prosecutors request trial for 'ndrangheta leaders in 2013 double murder

The Antimafia District Directorate of Catanzaro has requested a trial for three individuals accused of the 2013 double homicide of Giuseppe Bruno and his wife, Caterina Raimondi, in Squillace. The defendants include Cutro boss Nicolino Grande Aracri, Salvatore Abbruzzo of the Catarisano clan, and justice collaborator Sandro Ielapi.

Prosecutors allege the murders were ordered during a criminal summit at Grande Aracri’s residence to resolve a territorial feud between the Bruno clan of Vallefiorita and the Catarisano clan. The motive reportedly stemmed from Giuseppe Bruno’s refusal to expand criminal influence into the Soveratese region and disputes over extortion proceeds.

According to investigators, Abbruzzo planned the execution and assisted the hit team, while the attack was carried out by a commando armed with pistols and Kalashnikovs. The case relies on environmental interceptions and testimony from Ielapi. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 16 in Catanzaro.
