Antioquia Governor proposes spaceport to Elon Musk and seeks security fusion centers

Antioquia Governor Andrés Julián Rendón has proposed that SpaceX establish a spaceport in the Urabá region of the Colombian Caribbean. The invitation follows a viral post by Elon Musk regarding the life-saving impact of Starlink satellite internet in rural Antioquia, which has facilitated telemedicine services for remote communities.

Separately, during a Ministerial Security Council meeting in Medellín, Governor Rendón called for the creation of four fusion centers to combat crime in critical subregions, including Bajo Cauca, Norte, Nordeste, Oriente, and Suroeste. He emphasized that two-thirds of homicides in the department occur in rural areas, where organized armed groups profit from drug trafficking, illegal mining, and extortion.

The Governor also requested that the group known as El Mesa be officially recognized as an organized armed group to allow for increased military and police intervention. He expressed the regional government's willingness to support the forced eradication of illicit crops using specialized machinery.
