Antique bracelet with escape history sold on Bares für Rares

On the television show ‘Bares für Rares’, a late 19th-century rose gold bracelet with a significant historical backstory was sold for 750 euros. The piece, featuring an opal cabochon and seed pearls, was brought to the show by Ingrid and her son Ralf.

The bracelet carries a history of flight from Silesia, where a family acquaintance reportedly smuggled the jewelry to the West by hiding it inside a shoe heel. Expert Dr. Heide Rezepa-Zabel dated the hollow-worked square bracelet to between 1880 and 1900, noting its likely manufacture in the vicinity of Pforzheim or Berlin.

Despite some minor imperfections, including a missing prong and a replaced pearl, the item was valued between 900 and 1,100 euros. Dealer Elke Velten-Tönnies ultimately purchased the piece for 750 euros, exceeding the owners' initial expectations of 500 to 600 euros.
