Antirrio western breakwater restoration moves toward public tender

Procedures are entering the final stages for the restoration of the western breakwater in Antirrio, a critical port infrastructure that has suffered from significant damage and deterioration over several years. The project has a total budget of 900,000 euros including VAT and is moving toward a public tender following the completion of necessary studies and administrative processes.

The restoration is considered vital for the region due to the deteriorating state of the breakwater, which has raised concerns regarding the safety and functionality of the facility, particularly given the heavy daily traffic on the Rio–Antirrio ferry line.

Following the completion of preparatory work by the Municipality of Nafpaktos in June 2026, the project file was transferred to the Region of Western Greece. On September 2, 2026, the Technical Works Directorate of the Aetolia-Acarnania Regional Unit recommended the approval of the terms for an open electronic tender to the Regional Committee. This follows a programmatic agreement signed in April 2026 between the Municipal Port Fund of Nafpaktos and the Region of Western Greece.
