Antônio Calixto, Sandy & Junior cover artist, dies at 45

Antônio Calixto, a prominent cover artist for Junior Lima of the duo Sandy & Junior, has died at the age of 45. His death was confirmed by his management agency, Quarto Sinal, and fellow artist Natiare Azevedo.

Calixto had been hospitalized in São Paulo for several months battling severe pneumonia. The illness led to further complications, including an esophageal fistula. During his struggle, community efforts including a crowdfunding campaign and a benefit show were organized to assist with his medical treatments.

Calixto was well-known for his portrayal of Junior Lima and appeared in the 2020 documentary ‘A História de Sandy & Junior’ on Globoplay. He also performed covers of other artists such as Gusttavo Lima and Cristiano Araújo. Natiare Azevedo, who performs as a cover for Sandy, paid tribute to him, noting his significant role in her professional career and his support in helping her debut on television.
