Antônio Carlos Nunes, former CBF president, dies at 87
Antônio Carlos Nunes de Lima, widely known as Coronel Nunes, has died at the age of 87 in Belém, Pará. He had been hospitalized for over six months following complications from a previous brain tumor surgery.
A prominent figure in Brazilian football administration, Nunes served as the president of the Confederação Brasileira de Futebol (CBF) between 2017 and 2019, and held interim leadership roles in 2016 and 2021. He also led the Federação Paraense de Futebol (FPF) for nearly two decades, from 1998 to 2016.
His career included significant roles at the club Paysandu, where he was involved in their 1991 Série B championship victory. The CBF and various regional football entities, including Remo and Paysandu, have issued statements of mourning, praising his contributions to the development of football in both the state of Pará and throughout Brazil.
