António Costa promotes diplomatic dialogue for global stability
European Council President António Costa has engaged in high-level diplomatic discussions focused on global stability and conflict resolution. In New York, Costa met with Zoran Mamdani to discuss the intersection of economic policy and international stability. Costa emphasized that an economy designed ‘for the many’ cannot exist without peace and social cohesion, noting that divided societies undermine global economic efforts.
Separately, Costa held a discussion with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. During this exchange, Costa asserted that ‘dialogue is the only way to resolve conflicts and to ensure lasting peace across the region.’ He called for an end to strikes against neighboring countries and urged the full restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, Costa encouraged Iran to resume cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stating that the European Union is prepared to support diplomatic efforts to de-escalate regional tensions.
