Dr. Furlan elected governor of Amapá in first round

Dr. Furlan (PSD) has been elected governor of Amapá in the first round of the 2026 elections, securing 62.01% of the valid votes. He defeated the incumbent, Clécio Luís (União Brasil), who received 37.72%. Furlan, a cardiovascular surgeon and former mayor of Macapá, will assume office in January 2027. However, his election faces potential legal scrutiny as the Electoral Court has yet to finalize his candidacy registration status.

In the federal legislature, the Chamber of Deputies will see a 35.67% renewal rate, with 183 new members elected. The election also marked a historic milestone with a record 108 women elected to the House. Conversely, representation for Black and mixed-race candidates and indigenous candidates saw a decline.

In Amazonas, the State Assembly will undergo a 37.5% renewal. Notably, Clóvis Curubão (PT) was elected as the first indigenous representative in the history of the Amazonas State Assembly.
