António José Seguro calls for moral leadership in multidimensional warfare
Portuguese President António José Seguro addressed new Army officers during a sword delivery ceremony at the Military Academy in Lisbon. As the supreme commander of the Armed Forces, Seguro emphasized that the nation requires leaders capable of making difficult decisions, maintaining composure during unrest, and fostering unity in divisive times.
Seguro highlighted the evolving nature of conflict, noting that modern warfare has become multidimensional. He stated that battles are no longer confined to physical terrain but are increasingly fought through information, technology, cyberspace, artificial intelligence, and the manipulation of perception.
Despite the increasing role of technology, the President asserted that human values remain irreplaceable. He argued that while machines can perform calculations, they cannot substitute for character, courage, or the moral responsibility of a leader, maintaining that human commanders must remain the ultimate decision-makers.
