António José Seguro faces scrutiny over first presidential speech
Following his first official speech on October 5, Portuguese President António José Seguro has drawn varied reactions regarding his leadership style and vision. In his address, the President focused heavily on the concept of the future, repeatedly using the term to encourage citizens to build the “future of Portugal” and asserting that the nation’s destiny is not yet written.
Former PSD deputy Duarte Pacheco criticized the speech for lacking depth, noting that it failed to address major societal problems or present significant challenges. Pacheco expressed hope that Seguro would be more direct with the public rather than using overly polished or ambiguous language. However, Pacheco did praise the President for being “unequivocal and effective” when calling for results from the Government, noting that Seguro’s demands showed a sense of alignment with the current needs of the country.
