António José Seguro hosts Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa at Belém Palace

Portuguese President António José Seguro hosted his predecessor, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, for lunch at Belém Palace on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

According to a note from the Presidency, the meeting was characterized by “great sympathy, the sharing of experiences and an stimulating exchange of ideas about the country.” The two leaders were photographed conversing in the palace gardens.

This meeting follows similar recent receptions by President Seguro, who assumed office on March 9, 2026, after Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa completed a ten-year term. Seguro has previously hosted former heads of state António Ramalho Eanes and Aníbal Cavaco Silva at the palace in July.
