António José Seguro to review storm prevention measures

President António José Seguro has announced plans to review a report following Storm Kristin to evaluate preventive measures for future storms. Speaking in Batalha, the President emphasized that the country must prepare for increasing environmental dangers and unprecedented intensities.

Seguro acknowledged that the State was not adequately prepared for the devastation caused by Storm Kristin on January 28, when winds reached 200 kilometers per hour in the Leiria region. He noted that the nation is already behind in certain areas of preparedness and stressed the urgency of action.

The President highlighted the critical role of local authorities, emergency services, and utility technicians during the crisis. He also called for a reflection on national security and autonomy, ranging from basic emergency communications and power generators to complex financing systems designed to expedite recovery efforts.
