António José Seguro warns against devaluing Portugal's interior

Portuguese President António José Seguro has warned that a country that devalues its interior impoverishes itself. During a visit to Vila Real and Chaves in the Trás-os-Montes region, Seguro emphasized that culture plays a decisive role in providing visibility to territories, mobilizing communities, and stimulating the economy.

Simultaneously, various social and economic tensions are emerging across Portugal. A study by the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation indicates high levels of urban dissatisfaction, particularly in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, where residents cite high housing costs and traffic as major issues. In Braga, approximately 200 people demonstrated against the rising cost of living and the lack of affordable student housing.

Political shifts are also underway. The Viana do Castelo district branch of the CHEGA party has reaffirmed its support for André Ventura’s re-election to party leadership. Meanwhile, Sofia Pereira, Secretary-General of the Socialist Youth (JS), announced her candidacy for re-election, citing housing inaccessibility and the rising cost of living as primary concerns for her generation.
