Antônio Lemes resigns from Cuiabá City Council

Antônio Lemes (PSD) has announced his resignation from the Cuiabá City Council. Lemes stated the decision followed pressure from the original mandate holder, Jeferson Siqueira, amid political tensions regarding the election of the Council's Board of Directors.

Lemes indicated that the pressure to align with specific political groups during the leadership negotiations led to his decision to vacate the seat. While Siqueira had attempted to return to his mandate early, the Legislative Prosecutor's Office ruled that he must complete his full 120-day leave for private matters.

Misael Galvão, the next substitute in the party's order, has declined the opportunity to assume the seat. Galvão, who serves as the president of the Shopping Popular Street Vendors Association, stated his priority is the reconstruction of the Shopping Popular commercial center, which was destroyed by a fire in July 2024. He emphasized his commitment to the hundreds of families dependent on the center's recovery.
