Antónis Samara moves toward new Greek party amid criticism from Alexia Everett

Behind‑the‑scenes talks are underway to create a new political party linked to former prime minister Antónis Samara. Former ministers such as Panos Panagiotopoulos, Kostas Markopoulos, former deputy minister Antonis Bezas and several ex‑MPs are meeting in Athens and regional hubs, preparing the party ahead of the autumn 2026 or spring 2027 elections. Samara himself has remained publicly silent, while New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis is reportedly urging him to announce the formation two months before the vote.

Alexia Everett, daughter of the late Miltiadis Everett and an Athens municipal councillor, publicly rejected Samara’s plans, stating, “I cannot trust him,” and warned that a split could harm New Democracy’s cohesion and the country’s political stability.
