Antofagasta audit reveals massive driver's license irregularities

An audit by the Regional Comptroller of Antofagasta has uncovered widespread irregularities in the issuance of driver's licenses by the Municipality of Antofagasta between January 2024 and December 2025.

The investigation identified over 70,000 medical and sensometric exams that lasted less than one minute, including 253 evaluations that recorded a duration of zero seconds. Additionally, 265 practical exams for Class B licenses were completed in under 25 minutes, with 204 lasting only 10 minutes.

Other major findings include: - 402 licenses issued to individuals registered in the National Registry of Alimony Debtors. - 198 licenses granted to applicants with criminal convictions within the previous five years. - Three Class D licenses issued to individuals who had failed psychometric exams without medical justification. - Over 3,000 licenses that were not recorded in the National Driver Registry, and more than 54,000 reported with delays of up to 441 business days.

The Comptroller has ordered the start of invalidation procedures for the licenses issued to alimony debtors within 60 business days.
