Antofagasta Parole Commission reviews 360 inmate requests

The Antofagasta Parole Commission has begun its second session of the year to evaluate 360 requests for conditional liberty from inmates across the region. The commission is led by acting President of the Antofagasta Court of Appeals, Virginia Soublette, and includes several magistrates from the Criminal Oral Trial Court and the Guarantee Court of Antofagasta.

Requests are distributed geographically, with 190 coming from Antofagasta, 106 from Tocopilla, 46 from Calama, and 18 from Taltal. To qualify for parole, inmates must have served the required minimum sentence (half or two-thirds depending on the case), maintained irreproachable conduct, and received a psychosocial report from Gendarmería de Chile assessing recidivism risks.

Under recent legal modifications, Gendarmería must provide the list of applicants to the relevant execution court, which is then required to notify the victims of the application. Victims retain the right to submit written allegations regarding the requests.
