Antofagasta police dismantle hidden‑camera scheme cheating driving theory exams

Carabineros de Chile, acting on a complaint from the Municipality of Antofagasta, uncovered an organized fraud network that sold a specially equipped vest containing miniature cameras, a modem and communication devices. The vest transmitted the questions of the driving theory test in real time, allowing the buyer to receive answers and pass the exam illegally. The service was priced at roughly 350,000 Chilean pesos per candidate and the ring was estimated to carry out six to eight fraudulent exams each day.

Police arrested two suspects in flagrante: the individual offering the cheating service and a test‑taker who had paid for it. The equipment was seized, and General Cristian Montre, head of the Antofagasta police zone, highlighted the sophistication of the devices and the importance of protecting public trust. Mayor Sacha Razmilic praised the coordinated effort between the municipality, Carabineros and the Public Ministry and pledged to pursue legal action against the perpetrators.
