Antofagasta suspends municipal school classes due to water outage
A massive water outage in Antofagasta, Chile, has forced the suspension of classes in all municipal schools and high schools for Friday, August 14. The Corporación Municipal de Desarrollo Social (CMDS) made the decision to protect sanitary conditions after being notified of the service interruption.
The outage, which began around 06:00, was caused by repeated electrical supply failures following recent rainfall in the region. These power interruptions led to operational failures at the North Desalination Plant. Reports indicate that the water shortage affects more than 40% of the city's population and over 60% of the CMDS educational network.
Aguas Antofagasta has deployed teams and established alternative water distribution points for affected communities. Service restoration is expected to take place between 18:00 and 22:00 on Friday.
