Antoine Semenyo discusses Cape Verde’s World Cup success
Ghana and Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo stated that Cape Verde’s successful run in the 2026 World Cup was not a surprise to African players. Semenyo noted that after facing Cape Verde in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations, he recognized the team as one of the best on the continent.
The 2026 tournament marked a significant milestone for African football, with nine of the ten participating African nations advancing to the knockout stages. Morocco notably reached the quarter-finals. Semenyo suggested these performances demonstrate the rapid evolution of African football and its ability to compete at the highest global levels.
Semenyo, who played every minute of Ghana’s campaign, also reflected on his personal success in the Premier League, where he recently broke a long-standing record for the most goals scored by a Ghanaian in a single season.
