Antoine Semenyo highlights the rise of African football

Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo has highlighted the rapid evolution of African football following a record-breaking performance by the continent in the 2026 World Cup. During the tournament, nine of the ten competing African nations advanced to the knockout stages, with Morocco reaching the quarterfinals.

Semenyo, who played every minute of Ghana’s World Cup campaign, noted that the success of nations like Cape Verde was not a surprise to those familiar with the continent's rising talent. He emphasized that these results prove African teams are competing at the highest global levels.

On a personal level, the 26-year-old Ghanaian international recently set a new record for the most goals scored by a Ghanaian in a single Premier League season, netting 17 goals and surpassing the previous mark held by his idol, Tony Yeboah. Semenyo expressed his desire to inspire the next generation of African players through his success in the English leagues.
