Anton Kikaš discusses 1991 arms smuggling and espionage allegations

Entrepreneur and humanitarian Anton Kikaš has made several claims regarding his involvement in historical Croatian political and military affairs during an appearance on RTV Herceg-Bosne’s Kompas program.

Kikaš detailed his role in a 1991 operation to smuggle weapons into Croatia via a Ugandan aircraft, which was intercepted by Serbian forces. He noted that he had previously offered to donate weapons directly to the Ministry of the Interior, but was instead encouraged by Josip Manolić, then head of Croatian intelligence, to donate funds. Kikaš claimed that while he had previously sent between $500,000 and $1 million to the Croatian side, some of those funds may not have reached their intended destination.

Addressing allegations of his ties to intelligence services, Kikaš stated he was spied upon by the UDBA during the 1980s. He alleged that one of his employees, operating under the codename ‘Merdžo’, was an informant for Manolić. Kikaš also offered a $1 million reward to anyone who could prove he worked for the UDBA or KOS.
