Anton Stankov, former Bulgarian Minister of Justice, passes away

Former Bulgarian Minister of Justice Anton Stankov has passed away at the Military Medical Academy in Sofia following a brief illness.

Stankov served as the Minister of Justice from 2001 to 2005 under the government of Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha and also chaired the Supreme Judicial Council during that period. His legal career included roles as a judge in Shumen and Sofia, as well as serving as the chair of the Criminal Chamber of the Sofia City Court.

In 2025, the Dimi Panitsa School of Politics proposed him as a candidate for Ombudsman, a nomination that was submitted to the National Assembly. He was also a member of the political council of the National Movement Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (NDSV).
