Antonello Nicosia ordered to pay 15,000 euros for damage to state image
The Court of Auditors for the Sicilian Region has ordered former parliamentary assistant Antonello Nicosia to pay 15,000 euros to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers for damages to the state's image.
The ruling follows a final criminal conviction for mafia association and false certification. Nicosia, who had established ties with Cosa Nostra members in the Agrigento and Trapani provinces, used a professional collaboration with a member of the Chamber of Deputies between January and May 2019 to facilitate criminal activities.
While his role formally focused on studying prison conditions, investigators found he used his access to accompany the deputy on inspections of Italian correctional facilities. This allowed him to enter prisons, interact with mafia-linked inmates—including those under strict 41-bis regime—monitor potential informants, and relay messages to and from the outside.
