Antoni Gaudí legacy celebrated in Barcelona fashion and landmarks

As Barcelona commemorates the centenary of Antoni Gaudí’s death, the architect’s visual legacy is being celebrated through both fashion and urban landmarks. Major fashion houses, including Schiaparelli and Rosa Clará, have integrated Gaudí’s aesthetic into their collections. Schiaparelli’s creative director, Daniel Roseberry, utilized ‘trencadís’ patterns in recent designs, while bridal designer Rosa Clará presented the ‘Bride by Nature’ collection to honor the connection between architecture and nature.

Simultaneously, Park Güell remains a central focus of the commemorations. Originally conceived in 1899 as a garden city project by Eugeni Güell, the site transitioned from a commercial failure to a public green space purchased by the Barcelona City Council in 1922. While the park stands as a masterpiece of Gaudí’s integration of nature and artifice, it currently faces modern challenges regarding the management of its 4.4 million annual visitors and the resulting tension between tourism and local neighborhood life.
