Antoni Macierewicz identified as potential suspect in wreath theft investigation

The Warsaw-Śródmieście District Prosecutor's Office is investigating a theft and break-in involving a commemorative wreath following a Smoleńsk anniversary event in Warsaw on July 10. According to surveillance footage analyzed by investigators, three men were involved in taking a wreath from a bicycle cart parked near Wiejska Street.

Prosecutors stated that one of the individuals captured on camera, who was seen opening the cart's doors, “could be Member of Parliament Antoni Macierewicz.” A second individual was observed removing the wreath by bending a side panel. The stolen wreath, valued at approximately 800 PLN, contained a message criticizing the late President Lech Kaczyński regarding the Smoleńsk air disaster.

Antoni Macierewicz has denied the allegations, describing the reports as “nonsense” and stating he has no knowledge of the incident. Members of the Civic Coalition (KO) have publicly commented on the investigation, while the case has been classified as theft with breaking and entering under the Polish Penal Code.
