Croatian tennis player Antonia Ružić has advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 250 tournament in Osaka. Ružić secured her place after American Kayla Day retired from the match following the first set.
Ružić won the opening set 6-4. During the final game of the set, Day requested medical assistance due to lower back pain. After treatment failed to alleviate the discomfort, the 27-year-old American conceded the match.
Ružić is scheduled to face eighth seed Katie Boulter of Great Britain in the quarterfinals on Friday to compete for a spot in the semifinals.
