Antonino Accorinti: Italian Supreme Court upholds strict prison regime
Italy's Supreme Court, the Cassazione, has upheld the strict 41-bis prison regime for Antonino Accorinti, a 70-year-old boss of the 'Ndrangheta clan based in Briatico. The court declared his appeal against the Rome Surveillance Tribunal's order inadmissible.
Accorinti, who was previously sentenced to 12 years in prison following the ‘Costa Pulita’ operation, has been identified as a powerful figure capable of influencing local politics, tourism, and various business sectors in the Vibonese area. The court noted that intercepted communications revealed his significant prestige and connections to other criminal groups, including the Trimboli brothers, posing a risk that he could continue to communicate messages to the outside world if held under ordinary prison conditions.
