Antonino Fogliani, prominent Italian conductor, dies at 50

Italian conductor Antonino Fogliani has died at the age of 50. Born in Messina, Fogliani had established an extensive international career specializing in Italian opera repertoire, including works by Puccini, Verdi, and Rossini.

His professional journey began following studies at the Conservatorio ‘G. B. Martini’ in Bologna and the Milan Conservatory, with further training at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. After debuting at the Rossini Opera Festival in 2001, he performed at prestigious venues such as Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Regio di Parma, and Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.

Fogliani’s international presence included a 2011 debut at the Houston Grand Opera in the United States, serving as Music Director of the Rossini in Wildbad Belcanto Opera Festival in Germany, and acting as Principal Guest Conductor at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. He was also a prolific recording artist, capturing various operatic works including Rossini’s ‘Otello’ and ‘Il turco in Italia’.
