Wander Franco sentenced to three years suspended prison in Dominican Republic

The Court of Appeals of Puerto Plata has revoked a previously granted judicial pardon for former Major League Baseball player Wander Franco, sentencing him to three years of suspended prison. The ruling follows his conviction for the sexual and psychological abuse of a minor.

As part of the sentence, Franco must adhere to specific conditions, including remaining under judicial supervision and avoiding any contact, communication, or sexual relationship with the victim while she is a minor. He was also ordered to pay a fine of three minimum wages and the court mandated the forfeiture of 2.1 million pesos to the Dominican state.

The court also upheld a 10-year prison sentence for Martha Vanessa Chevalier, the victim's mother, who was found responsible for commercial sexual exploitation and money laundering. The legal proceedings have significantly impacted Franco's professional standing, leaving his future in Major League Baseball uncertain as the organization maintains its own disciplinary investigations.
