Antonio Astiazarán completes working tour of southern Sonora
Antonio Astiazarán, the municipal president of Hermosillo, recently completed a working tour through southern Sonora, visiting the municipalities of Cajeme, Navojoa, and Huatabampo. Organized by the civil group ‘Sonora con Todo’, the tour involved meetings with residents, youth, business leaders, and agricultural sector representatives to discuss regional challenges.
During the visits, Astiazarán highlighted successful initiatives from Hermosillo, specifically focusing on participatory budgeting through the ‘Presupuesto CRECES’ program. He noted that the budget for this program increased from 40 million to 100 million pesos, with citizen participation rising from 25,000 people in 2022 to 72,000 in 2025. This mechanism allows residents to vote on community projects such as parks, sports courts, and walkways.
Local residents raised concerns regarding essential infrastructure, including roads, drainage, water supply, and waste management. Astiazarán emphasized that direct dialogue with the population is necessary to address these needs and move beyond political ideology to focus on practical results.
